File 1998.04: Rounds v. KC Southern
Case Type: Railroad - Slack and Expansion Accident
Description:
A case in which the train slack and expansion that occurs when a train stops and starts, threw a train engineer from the last train car onto the tracks. The continued movement of the train then ran over the engineer's foot.
Visualizations Produced:
A series of 3D animations showing how much train slack and expansion occurs when several hundred train cars are connected and moving at a given MPH and are subsequently breaking. A second series of animations showed the engineer falling off the car, onto the tracks and eventually suffering an injury by the railroad cars' wheel.
