File 2005.21: Rice v. Baptist Medical Center

Case Type: Medical Malpractice

Description:
A gentleman went in for nasal surgery, during the operation, the instrument the doctor was using penetrated the lamina paprycea and snagged the optic nerve. The nerve was then tugged on and severed causing permanent damage to the eye and blindness.

Visualizations Produced:
Fearless Eye produced imagery of the skull, eyes, optic nerve and musculature to visualize the path the instrument took through the nasal cavity, piercing the lamina paprycea and catching on the optic nerve. Also, stills were created and x-rays scanned to orient the jury to the positions of these items within the orbital cavity.
