File 2006.09: McCloud v. Goodyear Dunlop Tires

Case Type: Tire Blowout

Description:
A Goodyear Dunlop motorcycle tire blew out on the highway severely injuring the rider. Upon investigation, it was discovered that during the manufacturing process, the cords, used to reinforce the tire, breached the inner liner, allowing air to leak from the inner liner out to the sidewall where it bubbled and burst. If this problem had been caught during inspection it could have prevented the accident.

Visualizations Produced:
A 3D replica of the tire in question was generated; allowing the layers of the tire to be shown in a tiered view and making it clear to the jury where each layer is positioned. Fearless Eye then created a flowchart illustrating the tire construction process showing how a mistake like this could have occurred.
