File 2010.14: Marks v. Moreno
Case Type: Automobile Accident
Description:
A man driving to work in the early morning hours was t-boned by another vehicle in an intersection. There were no witnesses and although the traffic lights appeared to be working properly when the police arrived, no one was sure who ran the red light.
Visualizations Produced:
After performing a 3D laser scan in conjunction with a Total Station Survey and photography, we used the data gathered to construct the site of the accident in 3D. We then collected data from local traffic engineers regarding the traffic light cycles at that location. Once these cycles were implemented, vehicles were placed into the scene and animated backwards at their respective speeds. A traffic light diagram was also produced showing normal flow of traffic and the timing of the lights to cycle in the primary and secondary directions. Illustrating that due to the timing of the traffic lights it was most likely the defendant that ran the light.
