File 2004.06: Manchester, NH MGP Site

Case Type: Environmental

Description:
An old oil processing facility in Manchester, NH had leaked oil and tar into the ground, slowly migrating toward the Merrimack River since the early 1900’s. Over the course of many years, the shoreline had also migrated toward the Merrimack pushing the oil and tar deeper into the ground than anticipated. Causing the insurance company to claim that there was no leak, however upon deeper core sampling it was discovered the presence of oil and tar beneath the added dirt and ash.

Visualizations Produced:
Fearless Eye produced two animations for this case. First, a time lapse animation of the shoreline evolution based on historic data, shorelines and aerial photography. Second, a 3D digital terrain model of the entire site, complete with historic structures, for orientation and cross-sections to illustrate boring sample locations, showing subsurface oil and tar migration directly correlating to the location of the historic oil drums.
