File 2005.08 - Boston World Series Riot

Case Type: Criminal

Description:
After the 2004 World Series, Boston City Police, seeking to disperse the crowd around Fenway Park, shot a pepper-spray-filled plastic ball towards the crowd, hitting a 23 year old Emerson College Student in the eye and killing her.  Fearless Eye was asked to analyze the video footage, taken by a fan’s mobile phone, to determine when the shots were fired and at what angle the Police Officer shot them.  The goal was to determine if the Police Officer was intentionally shooting at the crowd or if the shots were fired inadvertently.

Visualizations Produced:
The footage was cleaned, enhanced and slowed down, and angles of trajectory were measured.  The final product enabled law professionals to step through the footage frame-by-frame, while simultaneously listening to the fired shots.
